Follow along and learn by watching, listening and practicing.Īdjusting_viewport_brightness_and_contrast.zip Okay, so, this is just a quick tip but it becomes just that much easier to work in ZBrush with perspective and your camera by knowing how this works.ĭownload the files the instructor uses to teach the course. But, by default, I like to leave this on 28. It's going to be very difficult to match that exactly, even if you know the exact aperture and focal length of a real world camera, it's going to be very difficult to match this but if you do want to try to match it, it's going to be kind of trial and error thing where you kind of have to go back and forth and try to find exactly what that number should be and try to compare the two so you get something that looks right. However, because it's impossible to set this number to something that matches an exact camera in the real world, you're going to run into issues if you try to line up let's say a reference photograph with your sculpture in ZBrush. If you just want it to be set to something that looks kind of natural and feels kind of like the human eye sees things, actually setting this to a number of 28 is pretty good. Now, what's the right number to set this to? Well, that depends on what you're doing. The minimum number we can have in here is five, so you can't quite set it down to zero, but if you set it down to zero, it'll be the same thing as turning off perspective. If we come down lower, you can see it flattens out and gets closer and closer to an orthographic view. Now, in Maya if you set your Field of View to a higher number, you're actually going to get less perspective distortion. So, the higher the number, the more perspective distortion you can see happening here. Now, there's a setting in Maya called Field of View and it kind of does the same thing but in opposite so let's just see what happens as we start sliding this.

Okay, for this, you want to make sure you've got Perspective turned on like I have here and let's go into Draw and let's come down to Angle Of View.

Let's take a look at how it works in ZBrush and how to make it work better. This is especially true when it comes to how wide or narrow of an angle that the camera can view.

At worst, if you don't want to buy the full version yourself, get a student discount, or get Zbrush Core.īut with all that said, I believe the only way to get a Zbrush license dirt cheap is by either being qualified for a student license, or just getting Zbrush Core, which has far fewer features, sure, but it's also much cheaper and still does what most people need it to.- ZBrush doesn't have a true 3D camera so it doesn't behave like you would expect a camera to in Maya or 3ds Max. It's the least you can do for what they've made for you as an artist.

If you do intend to go pro or make money from your art, support the developers if you can. I do however feel that if you do not intend (or are not able) to make money from less than legally obtained software and you're simply using it for your personal studies, you're not directly hurting anybody, since you're not "denying" anyone their salary, so to speak. There are ways of obtaining it for free, but they're not entirely legal or moral.

Legally I don't think you can get a license for free as a student.
